The Florida Theatre is a 1923 landmark building in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. It has hosted the who's-who of music, dating back to Elvis Presley's first concert on an indoor stage in 1956. Its historic beauty stands in contrast to its neighbor of several blocks, the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, a recently finished, state-of-the-art facility complete with three performance environments. Also, convenient driving distance from Sweetwater is The Robert E. Jacoby Hall. The Hall is home to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and The Jim & Jan Moran Theater, which is designed for variety of performance formats, including Broadway touring shows such as Phantom, Rent and Miss Saigon. The Terry Theater is the smallest of the three halls and is designed for more intimate performances.

Rich in history and cultural diversity, area museums and galleries reflect the greater Jacksonville region's illustrious past. Numerous museums chronicle the area's growth and transformation. These historic themes are complemented by such varied interests as Jacksonville's Museum of Science and History, maritime and naval exhibits, exhibits celebrating the area's African-American heritage, and the beautiful gardens and gallery that comprise the Cummer Musuem.

Perhaps our most well-known annual event is the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. One of the largest jazz events in the world, this three-day celebration has featured such wide-ranging jazz and blues influences as Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Guy, Harry Connick, Jr., Grover Washington, Jr., Robert Cray Band, Kenny G, Manhattan Transfer and Spyro Gyra.

Sports

From the serenity of sailboat gliding on the St. Johns River to the deafening roar of the crowd at a Jacksonville Jaguars game, Jacksonville's diversity certainly includes the area of sports. Jacksonville is the host city for the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team and the Jacksonville Suns baseball team. The area also is the home of the PGA TOUR, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the World Golf Hall of Fame.
